Write the goal down first
A calculator can only answer the question you give it. Naming the goal and the year is the step that makes the number meaningful.
Be conservative on returns
If the plan only works at 15%% a year, it isn’t a plan. Run it again at 9%% and see whether you still like the answer.
Then review it annually
Income, inflation and goals all move. A plan set once and never revisited drifts quietly out of date.
